Michael M Crow honored at 2023 Arizona Historymaker Celebration

A Board Meeting in Australia prevented Michael Crow from personally accepting his honor of 2023 Arizona Historymaker™ as Educator and Innovator: under his leadership as president, Arizona State University achieved national renown. But that did not stop those who appreciate the work he is doing for Arizona State University from supporting him at the event October 14 at Arizona Heritage Center. He joined us via a pre-recorded message on the big screen.

Frank M. Barrios 2023 Historymaker has many supporters

The Barrios family and friends came out to accept the 2023 Arizona Historymaker honor for Frank M. Barrios. Kelley Perry gave a lovely speech at the podium.

Even though he has left this world, his good works continue to motivate us to create a better Arizona. Frank was honored for his water conservation policy maker; master storyteller focused on contributions of Mexican American communities in Phoenix.

National History Day Students and Parents attend 2023 Arizona Historymakers Celebration

Parents can make such a big difference in the life of a child. National History Day AZ students excelled at National Competition this year and parents played a big supporting role. The Historical League is an advocate of the NHDAZ program (both financially and with volunteers) and invited the students and parents to 2023 Arizona Historymakers Celebration Oct. 14. One parent remarked, "It is good to have the students recognized for all their hard work, not just by their peers but also by adults who value history."

Dr. John Mack guest speaker at Nov. meeting

El Tovar, Harvey Company and Atchison,Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad played a pivotal role in creating the dominant mythology of the American Southwest. As guest speaker at the November 6 Historical League meeting, Dr. John Nathan Mack gave us a fascinating view into the post-Civil war period when national attention shifted to the canyons and deserts of the American Southwest.

Thanks to Pat Grogg for the great educational programs this year.

Thanks to Bonnie Newhoff (who said his talk was Great) and Mary Perona for wonderful photos of the presentation.
