The ambiance of the Old West is alive and well at Rancho de Los Caballeros in Wickenburg. With visitors from Germany, France and Japan visiting often, they can take home some of that Western charm with Tastes & Treasures II: A Storytelling Cookbook of Historic Arizona now available in the lobby. The book tells the history of the dude ranch on pages 96-101.
Stop by when you are in the area to enjoy the history yourself.
The old wood-covered photo albums are filled with memories of guests that have experienced horseback rides, campfires, BBQs and genuine Western hospitality.

Thanks to Cathy Shumard and her industrious volunteers, we had wonderful weekend at Ft Hills Arts Festival. Many Historical League volunteers signed up to promote Tastes and Treasures book, AZ Heritage Center at Papago Park and Arizona History. There was a lot of interest in the Portraits of Courage exhibit by President George W. Bush as we handed out brochures and showed them his book with the paintings.

Kai at Wild Horse Pass serves Native American cuisine

With a historic nod to Kai, we have featured White Tepary Bean Puree in Tastes & Treasures II, page 66-71. Glad to see Phoenix Home and Garden also emphasizing the importance of native seeds and ancient super foods in it's October issue.

Tastes & Treasures II helping St. Jude's hospital

Raul Sanchez, Ruth McLeod, Susan Dale
Tastes & Treasures II does more than promote AZ history and foods. After meeting with Raul Sanchez at Lon's (pages 76-81 in Tastes & Treasures II), we partnered with St Jude's for their silent auction. They now have signed books of both volumes of Tastes & Treasures. Raul is a manager at Lon's, helping promote the resort and our book which features Lon's on the front cover.
Non-profits helping non-profits, working towards a good cause.

Tempe Book Festival

Patti Goss, Cathy Shumard, Norma Jean Coulter
Promoting Tastes & Treasures II: A Storytelling Cookbook of Historic Arizona is fun and rewarding. Thanks to Cathy Shumard, Norma Jean Coulter and Patti Goss for selling the book at Tempe Book Festival yesterday. The weather was perfect and customers were very interested in the book.
It was also an opportune time to share "Portraits of Courage", the new exhibit at AZ Heritage Center. Many were unaware of this and looking forward to seeing it.

Thank you luncheon for Cookbook Committee

Co-chairs Cathy Shumard, Leslie Christiansen, Linda Corderman,
writer Lisa Schnebly Heidinger, Ruth McLeod
Creating Tastes & Treasures II was a HUGE undertaking. A Thank You Luncheon was held at co-chair Linda Corderman's home November 1 to recognize all those who helped with the book. Celebrating the successes and chuckling over the gaffes, we remembered the details of publishing a storytelling book.
We continue to share the stories of Arizona, her history, her people, food memories, photographs, recipes and promote the AZ Heritage Center at Papago Park with this book.
