Understanding the difference between primary and secondary sources is one of the most important skills you'll build through National History Day.
Primary sources give you firsthand evidence from the time you're studying, while secondary sources help explain, analyze, and interpret that evidence. Both have an important place in historical research, but knowing when and how to use each one is what makes a strong historian.
