Wickenburg Historic Tour

Thanks to organizers Mary and John Garbaciak, the bus to Wickenburg was full, lunch at Rancho de los Caballeros was delicious and everyone came home with lots of interesting history of mining in the area. Stops included Vulture City Mine and exhibits at the Western Museum.

The first thing the Wickenburg miners saw coming out of the mines was this building. Note the sign "DOCTOR". He was mostly for injuries. The middle of the building was for food. A miner had 20-minute shifts to eat! And then the "BROTHEL". Some women/girls were 13 and 14 years old.

Historical League tours are educational events bringing us together to experience the past.

His knowledge of the Ranch’s history and surrounding area was most interesting. He spoke to our group during a fabulous lunch." The ambiance of the Old West is alive and well at Rancho de Los Caballeros in Wickenburg. With visitors from Germany, France and Japan visiting often, they can take home some of that Western charm with Tastes & Treasures II: A Storytelling Cookbook of Historic Arizona now available in the lobby. The book tells the history of the dude ranch on pages 96-101. 
Stop by when you are in the area to enjoy the history yourself. 
The old wood-covered photo albums are filled with memories of guests that have experienced horseback rides, campfires, BBQs and genuine Western hospitality.

Tastes & Treasures II, A Storytelling Cookbook of Historic Arizona will share the story of Rancho de Los Caballeros and it's recipes when the book is published this fall. Congratulations to 70 years.

 The Year Was 1948...

The United States was still recovering from World War II.

The first Polaroid Land Camera goes on sale in US department stores (No, you couldn’t pre-order the camera on Amazon Prime!). 

The independent state of Israel was created, the musical South Pacific opened on Broadway and James Taylor, Ozzy Osbourne and Al Gore were born.

At the same time, Rancho de los Caballeros was preparing to open for its first inaugural season.

Today, we prepare for our 70th anniversary season here at the ranch. Much has changed in the world but the ranch remains true to its roots; we still offer our special brand of Southwestern hospitality in an environment largely unchanged by the decades which have passed.

Rancho de Los Caballeros Breakfast Oatmeal

Wickenburg is filled with history of the South West, including the historic Rancho de Los Caballeros, with Chef Poblete creating in the kitchen. In his own dining habits, Chef Poblete utilizes a more “heart healthy” approach. Try one of his favorite recipes. Other breakfast recipes in Tastes & Treasures cookbook.

Heart Healthy Ranch Soaked Oats
Ingredients:
4 cups old-fashioned oats
4 cups almond milk
½ cup craisins
¼ cup walnuts
½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon nutmeg


Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a covered container and refrigerate overnight. Top with honey, wide coconut flake, crunchy granola, berries, or flax seed.
Yield: 10 4-oz. servings.
