Tastes & Treasures II at Navajo County Historical Society

1895-1897. The early years of Navajo County courthouse. Check out pictures Historical League Mary Perona took of the courthouse and the jail when she delivered a box of Tastes & Treasures II: A Storytelling Cookbook of Historic Arizona to them. Navajo Co. Historical Society Administrator Dawn Sawyer was very pleased to receive the books filled with AZ history, recipes, memories.

We are grateful to Mary for delivering books and taking photos.

Barbershop chairs from 1900s

Barbershops have changed but not Angel Delgadillo's Route 66 shop. They still use his father's 1926 chair. Mary Perona took pictures at Navajo Co. Historical Society in Holbrook so you can see the similarity to Angel's in Seligman. Photo shows Zona Lorig interviewing Angel for his oral history when he was honored as 2023 AZ Historymaker. •

Day at the Museum for NHDAZ students

Smiles greeted the NHDAZ students during Day at the Museum. Historical League members Cathy Shumard, Chris Hackett, Anne Lupica, Pam Den Draak had fun handing out SWAG: cowboy hats, pins, hoodies, AZ flags and more on Saturday, May 4 at Museum of the West. The students will stand out in the crowds in June at University of Maryland.

NHDAZ teachers are appreciated

Historical League is proud to support NHDAZ teachers. Glad to see them holding our book, Tastes & Treasures II: A Storytelling Cookbook of Historic Arizona. Filled with information about Arizona, the book is helpful for their students also.

National History Day in Arizona is feeling thankful.

NHDAZ loves our teachers! Although teacher appreciation should be everyday we wish you all a great teacher appreciation week!

Happy Birthday N.A.U.

Happy Birthday NAU. We salute Dr. J. Lawrence Walkup for his leading role in 1966, during which Arizona State College at Flagstaff gained university status, and was renamed Northern Arizona University. During Dr. Walkup’s twenty-two year tenure as president, the college budget of $1.8 million and enrollment of one thousand students expanded to $48 million and twelve thousand eight hundred students. He was recognized for his achievements, honored as Arizona Historymaker in 1995.
