Tour of Chuhily Exhibit at Desert Botanical Gardens
President Claire Nullmeyer reports on yesterday's Chihuly exhibit tour at DBG, "Upon arrival at the Garden, League members scattered like quail and could be spotted from afar. Bob and I viewed the exhibit with Anne Lupica and Mariamne Moore. It was a delightful evening and I had a great time visiting the wonderful gift shop where I bought a calendar and silk scarf!"

Bill Ponder retires after 25 year career with AHS
President Claire Nullmeyer comments on a recent event at the Arizona History Museum in Tucson honoring Bill Ponder's 25 year career. "Zona Lorig and I attended Bill's retirement event. He was very happy with the gathering and gentle “roasting and toasting”. Linda Whitaker, AHS Board President hosted the group of 20 invited guests.
Dr. David Breeckner and Tawn Downs presented Bill with a “Basket of Retirement Travel” gifts and a map of Arizona Museum locations signed by staff members from around the state."
Dr. Breckner writes, "Bill has been a quiet but powerful force at AHS, overseeing the institution's growth and transformation across the last quarter-century. We have been fortunate to count him as a leader and staff, and are sorry to see him go. He will be missed. It's with Bill in mind -- his vision, energy, and professionalism -- that we look ahead. I'm certain he'll remain in touch, and I am eager to work with you and all of the Historical League as we continue to grow his legacy across all of Arizona."

1992 Historymaker Philip C. Curtis art is featured in a film by EMS, Eric Minh Swenson, which could be a great teaser encouraging you to visit the Phoenix Art Museum to see the real deal. EMS Legacy Films is a continuing series of short films produced by EMS on artists and exhibitions.

2008 Historymaker Alice "Dinky" Snell passes on December 28, 2021
Alice "Dinky" Snell was honored by the Historical League in 2008 as an Arizona Historymaker. It is with great sadness that we acknowledge her passing on December 28, 2021. Historymakers are men and women who have distinguished themselves with noted achievements in such diverse areas as the arts, athletics, communications, community service, education and entertainment, and who have maintained their ties to Arizona. Dinky Snell certainly fit that criteria. Quote from AZ Republic article 1/5/22 "When asked as part of an oral history project for the Arizona Historical Society what advice she would give young people, she said, "Get as much education as you can, work hard, and be kind to others."

Hats Off to Historical League models at January 3 meeting
"Arizona Women who Might Have Worn My Hats" was the title of the program by Linda Starr at the January 3rd Historical League meeting. Linda has loved hats since she was 19 and has a hat collection spanning more than 140 years.
She has more than 200 hats, found in antique stores, estate shows, and garage sales, and from friends who gave her their grandmothers' beloved hats. Her collection took off in the 1990s when she started doing vintage fashion shows in Scottsdale for the Scottsdale Historical Society as a fund raiser. They had beautiful clothes but no hats and no accessories, so Linda started searching for them. Linda, who resides in Sedona but spent many years in Paradise Valley, has given programs at the Arizona Costume Institute of the Phoenix Art Museum, the Questers, the Butterfly Museum, and many others. She is a life member of the Sedona Historical Society and Scottsdale Historical Society, and member of the Sedona Questers and Palatki Questers.
It was great fun to see several Historical League members modeling the hats: Jan Murray, Mary Garbaciak, Mary Parker and Mariamne Moore. Group photo includes Diane Smith (back row) and Linda Fritsch (front row) with Lynda (middle front).
