We recommend seeing “Bolts of a Storm,” a painting by Ed Mell that’s on the second floor of the Phoenix Art Museum in the Western American exhibition on the north wing."

1992 Historymaker Philip C. Curtis art featured in EMS film

1992 Historymaker Philip C. Curtis art is featured in a film by EMS, Eric Minh Swenson, which could be a great teaser encouraging you to visit the Phoenix Art Museum to see the real deal. EMS Legacy Films is a continuing series of short films produced by EMS on artists and exhibitions.

Arizona Historymakers are men and women who have distinguished themselves with noted achievements in such diverse areas as the arts, athletics, communications, community service, education and entertainment, and who have maintained their ties to Arizona. Selected by the Historical League supporting the Arizona Historical Society.

Mary Poppins Fundraiser for December

AHS Museum featured in Best of the Valley Phoenix Magazine

Interesting article on page 142-151 featuring AHS Museum at Papago Park along with the Heard, MIM and Phoenix Art Museums. The article tells the story of the treasures stored in the archives at these museums. Shelves filled with artifacts and collections at AHS: over 14,000 objects in the A.J.Bayless Collection, nearly 8,000 related to The Wallace and Ladmo Show, jewelry from Gov. Rose Mofford, cash registers from Eddie Basha and paintings from Ed Mell.

Louise McCall supports AZ Recollections and Reflections

Historymaker Robert McCall had incredible artistic talent. His wife, Louise, has her own amazing art and will be featured at the Phoenix Art Museum exhibit April 4-7.

We appreciate the continued support Louise gives to the Historical League with donations to the our program to provide Arizona Recollections and Reflections Centennial book to all libraries in the state.

Denita Sewell Presents 1920s Fashions

Fashion Curator at the Phoenix Art Museum, Denita Sewell was our guest speaker at the January Historical League meeting. To a packed audience, she presented the Elegance and Grandeur of 1920's fashions.

Coco Channel was a favorite designer during that time. A unique lady who owned her own business, never married but had numerous affairs, and created apparel for the "Modern World".  Interesting that she grew up and learned to sew in an orphanage beginning at age 6. One of the favorite things I like about Coco is that she helped women say good-bye to the days of corsets and other confining garments.
