Tour to Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art

Perfect follow up to the guest speaker at the January meeting, we enjoyed Paolo Soleri:The City of Nature up close and personal. Curator Claire Carter explained the exhibit at Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art as we viewed each piece. Amazing work, fascinating history, interesting architect and artist.

Paolo Soleri was the topic of discussion at the January Historical League meeting. Curator for SMOCA, Claire Carter, has spent years researching his background and tells some interesting stories of his life and career as an artist and architect. She presented an overview of Paolo Soleri:The City is Nature now featured at SMOCA.

Who wouldn't want one of these in their yard?
Our latest fundraiser is this beautiful copper Soleri bell with the unique Historical League Old Ned logo. Thanks to Pam den Draak for helping to create this one of a kind bell with the Arcosanti Musuem.
The Historical League Soleri Wind Bells are a one-of–a-kind handmade bronze bells with original artwork from world-renowned artist Paolo Soleri.   A five-inch fin with a cutout of the League’s “Old Ned” logo hangs from the bottom of the bell, giving it an overall length of 22 inches. The bell is 3.25 “ h and 2.5” w.  There are variable colors ranging from green to turquoise and red to orange, with all shades mottled on the same piece.  The colors and patterns are random and will vary.  Each bell is a unique design handcrafted by a skilled artisan.

League tour of Cosanti

We learned so much in such a short time . . . Amazing place and Roger Tomalty was a great tour guide. He has a passion for Architecture, having worked with Paolo Soleri since the 1960's. At 94 years of age, Soleri is still creating and it is fascinating to watch the bronze bells being poured at the foundry.

Mary Garbaciak did a fabulous job again as tour chair and presented Roger with a copy of Tastes & Treasures cookbook. He was very interested in our book since he has many recipes and wants to write a cookbook for Cosanti.
