Informative, educational and historical tours drew me into the Historical League many years ago. It is wonderful to learn the history of so many buildings and have lunch at historic restaurants.

Thursday, Oct 11 was a busy day with over 35 members and friends enjoying the Opera Center tour on Central Ave, then hearing the history of Durant's from Carol McElroy. Thanks to Lindy Isaksen and Margaret Pogue for arranging such a fabulous tour.

Durant's didn't make it into our Tastes & Treasures cookbook. With only 2,000 books left out of 20,000, perhaps it is time to write a new cookbook and include this famous, historic venue!

Fascinating place with so much to see. You need to return again and again. The Historical League has wonderful tours and this one was great. Ruth Ann Hogan enjoys a unique Tree of Life. Peru had a unique exhibit and Margaret Pogue enjoyed the Bahamas display. The bagpipes were unusual. Interesting to see so many. The man from Malta is show playing a bagpipe.

PEO chapter honors Elisabeth Ruffner

Jeannine Moyle writes, "Here is a picture of Historical League gals who gathered at a P.E.O. state convention in May at the Mesa Hilton. Elisabeth Ruffner was honored for 60 years of service in a P.E.O chapter. It was fun to have so many League gals present to honor one of our Historymakers. This is yet another honor bestowed on her. P.E.O. is Philanthropic Educational Organization dedicated to promoting the advancement of education for women."

AZ Highways Travel Show photos

Vacation in Arizona was the theme at the Travel Show. With so many venues represented it is easy to stay in the state for all your travel needs. We shared a booth with AHS promoting the museum in Papago Park and the cookbook. The granola sampling was very popular. I think everyone came to the event hungry. Kay North and Jackie Berkowitz worked with Dr Peter Welsh. Even some 1880's dressed shoppers visited the booth. Thanks also to Margaret Pogue, Lindy Isacksen, Pat Faur and Tobe Daum who volunteered in the booth.

More Photos of Sandra Day O'Connor Open House

Hustle and bustle were the buzz words as the Historical League put the finishing touches on tables, centerpieces, name tags and delicious recipes from Tastes & Treasures cookbook. Pat Faur and Margaret Pogue arrange name tags at the welcoming table. Linda Wegener opens boxes of crystal plates.

Pat and co-chair April Riggins share a moment with Sandra Day O'Connor during the event.

Pecan Squares pg 172 were "melt in your mouth" good.

Great Pumpkin Cookies pg 162 had hints of nutmeg, cinnamon and chocolate chips.
