New ASU Intern at AHS Museum

Zona Lorig, Stephen Peterson, Linda Cathey and Linda Whitaker
Getting a donation of the entire personal collection of Sam Applewhite Sr. and Jr. is a nice addition for the AHS Museum. Getting it organized with front matter and finding aides is a big job.

We are grateful for the skills of new intern, ASU graduate student Stephen Petersen, who is very busy setting up this project with its high research value.

Sales of the Historical League Tastes & Treasures cookbooks help fund this intern program. Historical League members chat with Stephen and Interim Museum Director Linda Whitaker in the photo.

Wonderful Recognition Luncheon

Paradise Valley Country Club was the beautiful setting for the luncheon arranged by Delores Tomasek and Sharon Montegary. Guest speaker was Yuma's walking promotion, Tina Clark and she had so much to say about the area. Port Yuma was bustling in the 1800's with the Colorado River flowing into the Gila River, Yuma Territorial Prison, Riverboats coming from the Sea of Cortez . . . Her power point presentation showed us so much history! And so much happening in this century with agriculture. As Tina said, "Next time you are in Yuma, stop for more than gas."
Delores Tomasek welcomes the Historical League members.

Tina Clark presentation was "All Trails Lead to Yuma".

Nancy Evans quips with Tina Clark. Nancy brought the fabulous bromeliad centerpieces.

Yummmmy Easy Pasta Salad

For an easy delicious pasta salad, try this recipe from Linda Cathey. She brought it to a Children's Holiday Party meeting and it was a hit.

"Any kind of pasta you choose. Shrimp ( I get the cooked, frozen shrimp from Costco) I sometimes put crab in also. Chopped celery, chopped red onion.
The dressing is mayo (I use Miracle Whip), ketchup, Old Bay Seasoning. ( I use a LOT of Old Bay because I like it spicy) Use half as much ketchup as you do mayo. Make it the night before and put in fridge. You may have to add more dressing the next day as the pasta really absorbs it."

PEO chapter honors Elisabeth Ruffner

Jeannine Moyle writes, "Here is a picture of Historical League gals who gathered at a P.E.O. state convention in May at the Mesa Hilton. Elisabeth Ruffner was honored for 60 years of service in a P.E.O chapter. It was fun to have so many League gals present to honor one of our Historymakers. This is yet another honor bestowed on her. P.E.O. is Philanthropic Educational Organization dedicated to promoting the advancement of education for women."
