Historical League provides funding for NHDAZ students

Many NHDAZ students cannot afford the money to ship their elaborate exhibits to Wash. D.C. The Historical League provided specific funding for transportation this year. (For Ex. A NHD teacher in Nebraska rented a U-Haul trailer and drove her students exhibits). The AZ students were most appreciative for the funding.

Dear Mrs. Shumard and Historical League,
I hope you are doing well. I sincerely thank you and the historical league for your $400 donation to me and the rest of the students in the National History Day program. NHD, especially competing in nationals has truly impacted my technological as well as creative skills. By continuing to pursue participating in programs such as this one, I can continue to positively impact my career and prepare for the trials of future endeavors. Your support means a great deal to me and I hope the historical league will continue to work with NHDAZ to further the program in Arizona.
Thank you again,
Thanvi

Another Thank You letter from Flagstaff NHDAZ student:
My name is Grace Kim. Thank you so much to the Historical League for helping me with the costs of traveling to Maryland. I participated in the Junior Group Documentary category, and my project name was The Rush for Riches. The most rewarding part of competing in NHD was getting to travel to Maryland, and I learned how to improve my public speaking skills. Thank you!
Sincerely, Grace Kim.
Kaelyn Ward and Grace Kim

Letter from NHDAZ student Meredith Williams thanking the Historical League: Our group had a great time at NHD! We got to see multiple historical places and monuments and learned a lot about history, especially about space. Our group’s category was a junior group performance called The Salem Witch Trials: A Time of Lies and Hysteria. Even if competing was a little stressful and we didn’t win, all of us had a great time! This is a photo of us in costume for our play. Thank you so much for everything!
From, Meredith Williams
Meredith Williams gave a Jr. Group Performance w Rylie Yanko, Sutton Nickerson, Roman Chapman, and Eleanor Johnson. They took 1st place in our Arizona competition.

Letter from Ethan Tsay
“Hi, this is Ethan Tsay, a student that participated in the NHD National Contest this year. Thank you for providing the $400 stipend for the trip to DC, as it was a very rewarding experience. I enjoyed the entire process of NHD this year, from the construction of my website, to taking part in the exciting atmosphere during the national competition. I look forward to participating in more NHD contests in the future! Thank you, Ethan.”

National History Day AZ student Ethan Tsay placed first in Arizona competition for a senior individual website named Black Barbershops: Cutting to New Frontiers. His website also won an Equality in History award.

Stacey Trepanier is Grateful for Historical League NHDAZ support

NHDAZ Thank You letters are the best, this one from teacher Stacey Trepanier:

I wanted to take a moment to let you know that NHD was a positive experience for both me and my students this year. I had four projects that I worked with finish in the top 20, and a junior and senior project take Best in State Awards.
I cannot thank you enough for the League's financial support in helping make this trip a reality for both me and my students. I have attached some pictures of our time in DC!
Thank you again. Stacey Trepanier

National History Day AZ student Thanvi Voruganti is Junior Best in State Winner for documentary

Teacher Stacey Trepanier writes, "Our junior National History Day Best in State Winner was Thanvi for her individual documentary Vietnam: New Frontiers in Media Coverage."
Another way to express it is she is also 20th in the World for individual documentary.

When asked what does NHD mean to you?, Thanvi replied:
"The National History Day process has helped improve my technological ability, my writing skills, and ultimately help me find my voice. New perspectives and experiences have also helped me assess my personal opinions and ultimately embrace history as a tool to help make future decisions. Overall, NHD was a highly enjoyable procedure and truly benefitted me in many ways. "

The Historical League is proud to help sponsor these students in NHDAZ.

NHDAZ students send Thank You letters

Thank you letters from NHDAZ students are coming in. They are heartfelt:

Good day,

My name is Kim Zuleim Pineda-Uribe, my NHD project was a senior website - "The Internet: A Virtual Web of Communication Across the Informational Frontier."  I would like to thank the Historical League for the opportunity of financial aid in order to partake in National History Day.  The most rewarding part of competing in NHD is the over all experience and opportunity to need several people for around the states, as well as several other countries.  Despite not winning at nationals, my team and I still succeeded with making to there in the first place.  This trip was full of many learning opportunities such as, how to better our research, analyze historical documents, and over all how to better communicate.

Once again thank you for this opportunity and your time,

Kim Zuleim Pineda-Uribe

Another Thank You from NHDAZ student Raven Burrell, Chandler, AZ:
Thank You for the wonderful opportunity that you provided us to get to the NHD competition! It was exciting! We got to tour the Capital, meet Senator Kelly, visit the Monuments, Library of Congress, African American Museum, Smithsonian, Georgetown University and meet wonderful kids from all over the country and other countries. We walked over 113 thousand steps. I enjoyed sharing this experience with my classmates and some new friends that we met from other schools in Arizona. We really appreciate you helping us with the travel expenses.
Thank You,
Raven Jordan Burrell
