Traveling with the Historical League on overnight trips is informative and fun. 40 ladies are headed for Dallas on SouthWest Airlines. Then on the bus to the Texas hill country and history of the area. "The Stars at Night are Big and Bright, Deep in the Heart of Texas. . ."

What an awesome group of League members we have working on Tastes & Treasures, A Storytelling Cookbook of Historic Arizona Volume II. So much progress has been made and lots of work ahead but it is all great fun! Coffee and Conversation Lecture: A Dozen Ways to Die in the Desert, a talk by Leonard Marcisz

10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. on April 11, 2017 at AZ Heritage Center at Papago Park, Tempe, AZ

This presentation covers unusual ways in which people end up ten toes in the air in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. It is meant to provide an entertaining education as to how to deal with situations that involve bears, rattlesnakes, Gila monsters, scorpions, mountain lions, Africanized bees, lightning, heat, extreme cold, base jumpers, loaded weapons and the occasional hostile cactus. Survival tips included.
Leonard Marcisz is a former president of the Arizona Historical Society, and former chairman of the board of the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy. He is an expert historian on the McDowell Mountains.
This event is free to the public. Does not include museum admission. Donations welcome

Mackenzie Kimbro guest speaker April meeting

Mackenzie Kimbro, a sixth generation cattle rancher in southeastern Arizona, will be accompanied by her mother, Kelly Glenn-Kimbro as guest speakers at the April 3 League meeting. They will share stories of their family's cattle ranch, mountain lion and deer hunts and their work with the Malpai  Borderlands Group. Mackenzie will bring her cookbook and speak about her culinary efforts and her career as a sports coach. Mrs. Glenn-Kimbro has been the spokesperson for the Ruger Gun Company since 1988.

The Historical League meeting is at 10:00 am followed by lunch and guest speaker at AZ Heritage Center at Papago Park, Tempe, Arizona.
