Phoenix Suns to honor Historymaker Rev. Warren Stewart, key figure in fight for Arizona's MLK holiday
Honored by the Historical League as a Historymaker in 2017, Rev. Dr. Stewart continues to be recognized.
From the Arizona Republic:
Longtime Civil rights activist the Rev. Dr. Warren H. Stewart Sr. is slated to be recognized during halftime of Monday’s Phoenix-San Antonio game as part of several activities on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Stewart a prominent leader in the effort for Arizona to adopt the holiday honoring King in the late 1980s and early '90s, after a holiday that had been put in place was rescinded by then-Gov. Evan Mecham. After several years of ongoing controversy and national publicity -- including the NFL vowing to withhold bringing a Super Bowl to the state -- voters approved adoption of the holiday in 1992, after an initial vote had failed two years earlier.

Tastes & Treasures II Cookbooks stored in new location
With the Arizona Heritage Center at Papago Park bringing in new exhibits, the storage area for cookbooks was no longer available.
Thanks to Dr. Burns, we now have a large, separate, locked room for our books, conveniently located a few offices away from the Historical League office. Dr. Burns found new shelving for the area and moved the books just before Christmas. We are very grateful!
Cathy Shumard is ready to mail books!

January Guest Speaker Jim Elitzak of Zak's Chocolates
GOOD chocolate is so delicious. Jim Elitzak, owner of Zak's Chocolates, was the guest speaker at our January meeting. He explained the process of extracting rich cocoa from the beans. We sampled some of the finest chocolates!
Jim has traveled the world in search of the best cocoa beans for Zak's Chocolates.
It's worth the visit to his store, and you can pick up a copy of Tastes & Treasures II also.
