Autographs of Tastes & Treasures II cookbook

Jeannine Moyle
Jeannine Moyle bought her copy of Tastes and Treasures II cookbook at the AZ Statehood Celebration at the AZ Heritage Center on Feb 13 and immediately started to go through it. Sitting next to Margaret Baker in the auditorium, she asked Margaret to sign the Gass Bros. page in her cookbook!  This page is about Margaret's grandfather's restaurant in downtown Phoenix. Margaret was so surprised and honored. Jeannine commented that she thought the Gass Bros. page was one of the best of the tribute pages because it was such a part of early 1900 Arizona history.
Read the fascinating yourself in this new book. $30 at www.HistoricalLeague.org/SHOP.aspx

Lunch at Lon's at Hermosa Inn

Ruth McLeod and Elaine Kapach
Delightful patio and delicious food on a lovely late January day, that's what happens at Lon's at Hermosa Inn. We enjoyed the gardens and big trees; visited with Stan and Nancy Evans who also thought it was a great day for Lon's. Recognize the front door to Hermosa Inn? It's the front cover of Tastes & Treasures II; A Stortytelling Cookbook of Historic Arizona. Written by all volunteers and at O'Neil Printing now, the book is the latest publication from the Historical League.

It will be available for the first time at the February 13 Statehood Day Celebration at AZ Heritage Center. Featuring Historymaker Marshall Trimble and balladeer Dolan Ellis, as well as announcing the 2019 Historymakers, this will be quite an evening. From 6-8:30 pm. New signage at AZ Heritage Center

Nice to see the new signage at the museum. Our director, Tawn Downs, has been working hard at promoting the facility and making it a better place to visit. This was another of her goals.  We are very fortunate to have her at the museum.

Monthly lunches and meetings

It's not all serious meetings with the Historical League. We start off with discussions and enjoy hearing the report from museum director, Tawn Downs. She is filled with enthusiasm and ideas so it is great to hear how the attendance has increased, facilities rentals have improved, exhibits are being built and even the gift shop is doing well.
Meetings are followed by a delicious lunch from Dancing Chef. The couscous with black beans was very tasty and those look like Terri's All-American Brownies with the strawberries and blackberries. The recipe can be found in Tastes & Treasures II, A Storytelling Cookbook of Historic Arizona. Available at HistoricalLeague.org/SHOP.aspx
