Selling Tastes & Treasures II at Windsor Square Home Tour

Historic homes in Phoenix and an historic AZ cookbook went well together at the Windsor Square Home Tour. Thanks to Andrea Evans for getting us a space.
Rain started off the morning during set up at 7:30 am but clear skies appeared by 10:00 am and it was a lovely day. We were energized to met lots of people interested in history and cooking with Tastes & Treasures II, and joining the Historical League. Thanks to Mariamne Moore, Ruth McLeod and Susan Dale for managing set up, sales and tear down.
Another vendor was John Jacquemart, long-time Historical League supporter selling his wonderful book, Phoenix Past and Present.

Mary Poppins Smashing Success

Wonderful new event for the Historical League with all attending smiling throughout the day. The performance was uplifting, great staging effects, singing and dancing. Children and adults alike enjoyed the day with plenty of refreshments, socializing, raffle items and Holiday Cheer! Kudos to Anne Lupica and her committee!

Cookbooks arrive at Museum

With orders coming in and low inventory we had 2,000 cookbooks delivered to the Museum.

Always there to lend a hand are Carolyn Mendoza and Zona Lorig. They are amazing friends and supporters of the Historical League. What would we do without our fabulous volunteers?!!

Staff members Ron and Juan and temporary assistant did the heavy lifting. Thank Goodness.

How to write a cookbook

Writing our cookbook was a two year journey. We often compare it to the birth of an elephant.

After writing to historic venues across the state, we received many recipes from chefs of famous restaurant and inns. But often the recipes were for serving large crowds so they needed to be modified. (No need to have 2 cups hot chile powder in a burrito.) We taste tested every recipe 3 times to make sure they were accurate.

Historymakers and Historical League members also contributed to the book with recipes and food memories of growing up in Arizona. Their recipes were very accurate.

Zona Lorig told the background of Tastes & Treasures A Storytelling Cookbook of Historic Arizona at the recent Arizona History Convention in Yuma. Using a power point presentation was a new experience for us, but we learned a lot and shared a lot of information.
