NHD 2022 Winners from Arizona



A National History Day season for the history books! Arizona students stayed committed to their 

NHD projects despite facing an ever-changing NHD landscape! 

The theme for 2022 was Debate and Diplomacy in History: Successes, Failures, and Consequences

Congratulations to the 43 students from Arizona representing 28 entries that were promoted to the national contest. They competed against over 3,000 students from all over the world!

Of all the students competing in the National History Day contest around the world, the following Arizona students finished in the top ten in their category: 

9th Place, Junior Individual Exhibit: Baldwin v. Buckley: The Debate of the American Dream, Ethan T

10th Place, Junior Group Exhibit: Depathologizing Homosexuality: Diplomacy for Deviants, Isela T and Melina E

5th Place, Senior Group Documentary: Diplomacy with a Swing: The Brubeck Quartet and the “Behind the Iron Curtain” Tour, Ajay T, Sam T, and Senou K

6th Place, Senior Individual Website and Asian American History Award Winner: Reading Between the Lines: Debate and Diplomacy in Japanese American Internment, Nagasriya R

 

Arizona’s Outstanding Affiliate Projects were:

Junior Division: Dead Men Can’t Negotiate: The Cuban Missile Crisis and 13 Days of Debate, Dread, and Diplomacy, Erich D
Senior Division: Diplomacy with a Swing: The Brubeck Quartet and the “Behind the Iron Curtain” Tour, Ajay T, Sam T, and Senou K

And the following projects were celebrated in national showcases:

A Philip Randolph and the March on Washington Movement, Chase B

Nelson Mandela: The Diplomat Who Put an End to Apartheid, Molly B

Protecting Its Sovereignty: The Legacy of Ethiopia, Sunmit H and Michael M

 

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History Exhibit Showcase:

Exposing the Dirty War: The American Puppetmaster, Dae-Kyung K, Neha M, and Mark Z

 

Planet World Virtual Website Showcase:
